Hi there, apologies if this is in the wrong place. It is, in my mind, a design question:
How do you design your hardware racks and work desk to be kid-proof?
I will eventually build out a reference room + two live room studio setup. I plan to control the reference room entry via keypad on the sliding doors. Once inside the reference room, I plan on having enough mic pres and ADC/DAC for 16-24 channels, mixing inside the box (perhaps with a control surface like PS Faderport 16), and then limited mastering hardware (summing busses). Call it 10-15 rack spaces worth of gear.
Of course, that could (will) grow, but how would you recommend storing that to allow zero unwanted knob-turns? I understand the recommendation to never let the little kids into the room, but it's going to happen. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Brian

Hi,
Have you considered doors on the front of your racks?
For the desk maybe some cover that folds back with piano hinges?
Just a few ideas

Stay up at night reading books on acoustics and studio design, learn Sketchup, bang your head against a wall, redesign your studio 15 times, curse the gods of HVAC silencers and door seals .... or hire a studio designer.

Good idea! Many rack manufacturers do offer racks with lockable glass doors. That would solve the problem simply and effectively.
