tiny 200 square foot recording studio: 2 rooms vs 1 room
hi, I'm building a small 200 square foot recording space that's about 10 ft x 20 ft wide. it will be professionally soundproofed and acoustically treated. do you recommend having a mixing room + live and/or iso room or just one big room. is a vocal booth even necessary? any other ideas, suggestions, resources are welcome. thanks!

Hi. Please read the forum rules for posting (click here). You seem to be missing a couple of things!
In 200 square feet, there's not really space to do two rooms. According to internationally recognized specs, such as ITU BS.1116-3, the minimum floor area for a "critical listening room" (such as a control room) is about 220 ft2. It is possible to do a control room in less space than that, but the smaller it is, the more complicated it gets to treat and tune the rooms. It might be possible to do 2 rooms, but it would be very tight. Especially considering that you'll lose maybe foot or so on each side of each room for the isolation, and several more inches for treatment.

IF you are going to hire a studio designer to do the isolation ("soundproofing") and the treatment, then you should be asking that same studio designer about the options for going one room or two room.it will be professionally soundproofed and acoustically treated.
