Soffit with independent decoupled stand for the speakers?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Soffit with independent decoupled stand for the speakers?

Post by casaestudio »

Hello to all. I've been reading Simo's amazing build http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... &start=255 since I'm planning my soffit. It seems that at some time he encountered some trouble with resonances on his estructure and baffle.

I am wondering if building a massive stand for each monitor and then frame the estructure for the baffle around it would be ideal. I've thought on building a stand with 30mm thick chipboard (heavy) filled with bags of sand (heavier), box the monitor using 19mm thick chipboard and bolt that box to the stand. The monitor would be lined, inside the box, with a 6mm sorbothane sheet.

Then I would frame everything else around that estructure.

Would that be a good approach? Is it worth it?

Thanks!!
