With no weight on the top ones they might not be doing much. Like just setting a spring on top of something. I'm still learning about sorbothne and I'm still calculating what I need for mine but that's my basicly my understanding so far.
The soffit design looks pretty bitchen though.
Hey I was just wondering the same thing, stuart pointed me in the direction of sorbothane pads. the reason I put them on top and on sides is just to completly decouple the speaker from the box and to keep it from moving within the box.
The way I understand Stuarts design is: Create a box put a speaker in it and make shure it's completly decoupled from that box with sorbothane so it can't transmit any vibrations to the box or surrounding structure.
But how to calculate the size of these I still don't know and was hoping Stuart could enlighten me and you. But as I understand it it's a proprietary design and he's not so eager to give away his secret's. Understandeble!
So I'm also trying to figure things out and can't say that my design is a good one. I just don't know.

It's actually taken me quite a few years (and a lot of hard work) to refine this design, and several of my customers have paid to have it optimized for their individual rooms... with pretty good results, so far! So since it's something that other people have paid for, it's not really ethical to just throw it out in public, for free.
You are on the right general track, though.... The key (as you already know, so I'm not revealing any trade secretes here), is to get the deflection correct on each pad....
When I'm in the construction phase I'll send you PM for your rating for the soffit design.
I need it to be good/best as possible. So maybe we can work something out. Whill take a while still so....
If ok with you I'll send a final room measurement plan here and if you can confirm the measurement of soffit and speaker angle, I would be well on my way and gratefull untill then.
I was just wondering where you guys got the program to calculate the pads. I didn't see it on their web sight.
My monitors just came in!! I bought them from someone in Florida so it had a long delay while they where getting power and Internet back after the hurricane. But I'm back to designing and building.
They are Adam a5x
They are 11"tall x 6.5"wide x 8.5"deep - 14.6 lbs - the response is 50hz to 50khz
If some has a link they could share to the program or has it handy and could plug in some numbers for me I would be in your debt.
I'm going to measure out my a5x and make a Cad file of the hole to cut out so I can CNC cut a baffle for mine. Once I do I'll put them up for everyone else that might be useing them. I know a7x are popular and if anyone needs help with that just holler. I can draw them up and even CNC cut them.
