Sliding Glass door
Good morning all! I'm currently under construction at my location in Longwood, FL. The framer asked me what size opening he needed to leave for a sliding glass door. Herein my dilemma... I was wondering if anyone has info on a sliding glass door company that either builds soundproof ones, or will custom one (Allowing me to get the glass). In full disclosure I did contact the company Soundproof Windows but the guy went on about how they are the Cadillac windows of the industry and how costly it would be.
As far as a budget is concerned I didnt have one as Im not aware of what they usually go for.

Re: Sliding Glass door
Assuming you want a standard sized unit, they are usually 80" tall (6'8"), and they usually come in widths of 60", 72" or 96", but other sizes are available too. (You can also sometimes get them in 82" height and 96" height). Of course, the bigger they are, the more expensive the glass will be! Laminated glass that size is expensive to start with, so making it even bigger pushes the price up even more. Not to mention the weight, which then needs heavier duty rollers and runners.... There's almost TWICE the area of glass in a 96" x 96" door, as there is an 80" x 60" door. The framer asked me what size opening he needed to leave for a sliding glass door.
Regarding "soundproofing" (better: "isolation"): that all depends on what you need! What is your goal, in terms of decibels of isolation? That goal will dictate the thickness and type of glass that you need in your doors, and the size of the gap between them, and also the seals that you will need.

Re: Sliding Glass door
Hey Soundman2020.. Thanks for responding. Im happy to hear your numbers cause thats exactly what we did. We decided to make it a 6 foot opening. NOW I am trying to find a local glass shop that can possibly build me a door with two 5/8" laminated glass. OR If there was a DIY on that that you know of I would GREATLY appreciate it.Soundman2020 wrote:Assuming you want a standard sized unit, they are usually 80" tall (6'8"), and they usually come in widths of 60", 72" or 96", but other sizes are available too.
