Hi, I'm looking into making some bass traps as well as early reflection absorbers in a tiny tiny tracking and mixing room on a low low budget.
My main question is: how easy is it to work with Roxul Safe N Sound (cut it into strips at 1/2" accuracy), and if it's only covered by fabric, will its fibers make its way through the pores in the fabric?
Basically, my plan is to sew GoBo "pillows" out of the stuff, that I can affix to the walls with Velcro and (when not in tracking/mixing use) affix to the ceiling, also via Velcro.
As I've never worked with it, and don't really have the space to do a "test run," since you can't buy it by the square meter, I'm hoping you can provide some guidance:
1. How rigid is the material? Can a 48-inch strip maintain its form if I'm cutting out a 3.5" strip at a 45-degree angle, or will it fall apart? If it's not contained in a rigid (wood) frame, but rather in pillow form, will it maintain its shape reasonably well, or will it ball up at the lowest point of gravity within a matter of hours (or weeks)?
2. If it's wrapped in fabric overhead, will its fibers seep through the porous fabric (say, muslin) onto my recording equipment and instruments? Is there a fabric that might better keep it contained (say, polyester)?
- - 2a. If yes, it will make it's way through fabric, would a 1-2 mil plastic sheeting maintain the rockwool and not significntly interfere (reflect) with its absorption properties?
^^ I saw someone making a cloud of this stuff on Gearslutz and he mentioned that he saw this on this forum, which is why I came here, as I haven't seen anything about this anywhere else (including searching this site).
I'm quite a bit ahead of myself here, since there's a good week or two of room adjustment to get to a place where I can even install anything (if I showed you my REW charts you'd get sick), but I wanted to get an idea of whether SnS would be a workable material for me to improve a bad situation.
Here's the bad stuff: a tiny L-Shaped room full of equipment and instruments. I have a lot of work to do here before installing or buying anything, as most of the ceiling (overhead) shelves are filled with equipment boxes that can now be stored elsewhere (yay!).

Re: Working with Roxul SnS (Overhead "Pillows")
Just to clarify, I'm not looking for specific room suggestions, just info on working with SnS. I only included the room schematic due to the forum rules, and I will likely have a different layout when I'm ready to build/install.
Right now the room has ~75db variation from peaks to dips.
At this point, I'm just looking at options. And one question I didn't mention:
3. As these will be movable installs (affixed by velcro both on the walls and the ceiling), are there any unforeseen concerns I should have (health, effectiveness, etc.)?
