Rehearsal room for band

Post by Jaaj38 »

Hi!

I want to make small rehearsal room for my band. I have a location but I didn't visit it yet. So what should I get? On my list is some sound isolation, but I don't know more.

Thx for help! 8) 8)

Hi "Jaaj38". Please read the forum rules for posting (click here). You seem to be missing a couple of things! :)
So what should I get? On my list is some sound isolation,
sound isolation is not something you can "get". Sound isolation is the set of modifications that you make to the building structure itself. You can't buy "sound isolation" to put in your room, because there is no such thing. You can buy acoustic treatment to put in your room, but that's a very very different thing.

"Isolation" is a system of building materials and construction techniques that you use to stop sound from getting out of your room. You cannot do that by just putting things in the room itself: you have to modify the walls, floor, ceiling, windows, doors, electrical system and HVAC system to get isolation.

"Treatment" is what you do inside the room to make it sound good, but treatment does not isolate the room. Treatment does not prevent sound from getting out. It just changes the way the room sounds, inside. You can indeed buy acoustic treatment panels of various types to put in your room, but you cannot buy acoustic isolation, because it is not something you can just put on the walls... It IS the walls! It's the way you take apart the existing walls, modify them, and put them back together as an isolation system.

Isolation and treatment are two entirely different things.

Well we want to have isolated place, so nobody will hear us from outside. Also we want to make it usable to record some demos.

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible.
The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
