DIY Sound proof door design/ construction/ materials

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

DIY Sound proof door design/ construction/ materials

Post by mr2sticks »

Hey guys, I'm very new here...

Could someone point me in the direction of DIY door designs?

At the moment I'm contemplating using a MDF/PLY/MDF construction.
Maybe some lead sheeting and or Green Glue between these layers.

I have the benefit of a woodwork studio and a woodwork professional as a friend.
I don't need a window in the door and am trying to keep the two doors 'standard' thickness for a speedy build.

Any links or advice very welcome.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi there,

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible.
The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.

The best place for learning how to build doors that I know of, is chapter 5 of Rod's book: "Home Recording Studio: Build it Like the Pros", by Rod Gervais.

There's also a lot of information right here on the forum, with many threads where people show how they built their doors, and what results they got.
