Can someone tell me how to build a lightweight gobo that could be easily hung from the ceiling to form temporary walls to improve symetry in an odd shaped bedroom studio? I dont know if lightweight and gobo belong in the same sentence but I prefer not to use MDF or any other heavy materials that would necessitate using wheels to move these gobos around the room.
Would rigid foam 2 inches thick and measuring 2 feet by 8 feet and faced with 2 inches of 703 (or mineral wool) work. They sure would be light and could easily be lined up to form a temporary wall.

Dan - hanging foam or similar isn't going to have any effect on the low mids/lows - only the high frequencies. The lows will go straight through it.
If you want to keep them light why not try wrapping soft fibreboard (celotex) in fibreglass and have a cloth cover.
You could have hooks on the top of the panel and eyes all over your ceiling so you move them around by unhooking and moving to other eyes.
cheers

John,
When you have a spare moment, would you mind viewing the diagrams (link below) that show the room where the gobos I plan to build will be going.
The gobos will be used in this space;
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1796 (use scroll to view both diagrams)
They need to be multipurpose;
1) Form a removable wall about 12 feet long that would seperate the control side of the room from the recording side of the room. The purpose of this gobo wall is to create some symmetry in the control space. It needs to be removeable so when friends come over to jam they have access to one large space.
2) To form a temporary recording booth when necessary.
If I make four gobos from 3 foot wide hollow core closet doors from home depot ($25 bucks each) this would form the removeable wall covering 12 feet. With closet bypass door track mounted to the ceiling and rollers mounted to the top of the doors, this would allow for the 12 foot wall, or a wall with a 6 foot opening in the center by simply pushing 2 doors to one side of the room and 2 doors to the other. Of course the doors could easily be taken completely off the track to open up the entire room or they could then be used to form a recording booth. 703 could be surface mounted to the doors or a 2 foot by 4 foot hole could be plunge cut in the center of the door and this hole could be filled with 703.
What do you think about that?
