Hello,
I am seeking for some help for treating my Living Room where I started recording and Mixing some Music a while ago.
After reading the Before you Post Thread I hope I get everything needed to get some help.
First Up. I am from Germany so pardon me my phrasing.
I attached a Sketch I created with some measurements:
And here are some real Pics photographed clockwise from my Mixing Position so you know what I am dealing with:
The Sketch has labeled some information about the walls. The Ceiling is wood panelling and the floor is laminate. The Corner where the fireplace is has also some gypsum cardboard and some quarter bricks. The Floor around the Fireplace has some Tiles underneath.
Now the Question is how can I optimize my Listening Environment without tearing everything apart and spending an unnecessary amount of money.
I realized a while ago that there is happening something strange with the 2-3K Area. As I tried a trick with putting my Hands behind my Ears I instantly realized that all my Mixes had way too much Information in that range. With my Hands behind my Ears I could easily hear small EQing about a half db. Without my Hands behind the Ears I didn't realize much difference when I cutted about 3db at that range with a not too small Q-Setting.
Hopefully I gave you guys enough Information. I haven't thought about a Budget by now but if a few Hundred Bucks are necessary to get a really good result I wouldn't mind spending it.
I also wouldn't mind building some Traps or Diffusors with Proper Guidance. Somehwere I have some of these lying around: AixFoam
Edit:
I may add that my Monitors are Yamaha HS5 and my Listening Volume isn't very high all the Time.
And if I forgot something to get an answer when it's my turn let me know.
Thanks in Advance
Sven
