Beautiful job! I keep coming back to this thread and learn more and more.
Question on the hvac silencer box, i'm going to install it behind the room within the room wall(not touching the room within the room at all), the opening for the duct entering the room(the extention part in your case) it's not supposed to be touching the sheet rock wall right? do you leave about 1/4 gap around it and fill it with backer rod and sound sealant glue? The silencer box will seating on cement.
Thank you.

That sounds like a great idea. But I just have the drywall against my silencer box. I do have two sheets of 5/8" drywall with green glue in between the sheets. I think your idea is good. Best of luck!

Hi,
Great thread, probably read it 5 times now. Question on your HVAC, are your silencers connected to existing vents and returns in your basement or did I miss something, did you tap new vents and returns off of the ductwork or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Allen

I tapped into the main HVAC sends and returns in the basement. I used insulated flex duct to connect my boxes to the trunks.
Update on acoustic panels:
They tops were starting to droop from the weight. I had weakened the boards when I cut them to allow more sound to get inside. So I bought some angle aluminum at Lowes and screwed them into the tops of the frames for support. This should also help to keep them in place, as they have fallen off the walls a couple times.
You can hear some of my first recordings at the new studio at the links below. I recorded one of my daughters, who wrote the songs, sang and played piano.

Re: Basement studio in West Virginia: build diary
Hi thanks, for the reply, does using flex duct through the walls do the same thing as cutting a wooden vent in half and wrapping neoprene around it as far as eliminating a flanking path through the inner and outer leaves?
Thanks again,
Allen

Yes. It eliminates the flanking.
