Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
Alot of work done since my last post.
Here is a copy of the sofit plan change
Hopefully I got it right this time.
Walls are all in and mudded.
Floor heating is installed and the floor panels
Layed
One big ?
With laying Laminate flooring with underlay
What do I need to watch out for do I even use a underlay
Should I glue it directly to the Fermacell floor panels?
After the flooring is finished ill install doors and windows
And start my preliminary test runs with REW and post those
Thanks for the help and tips so far an awsome informative
Forum!!

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
I need to take a break on working on the studio again now at the most will be planning and maybe starting on the silencers. ( School finals coming up arg 34 and still playing student ) Feb. ill have time again!
Ill post some pics tomorrow of the current stand. And as soon as I have measurements and plans for the silencers ill post them aswell ( before I start building them this time ) . Hopefully I interpret plans and forum entry's on the topic right. With the HVAC silencers:-)) maybe ill even get them drawn in Sketchup;-)

Definitely do not glue it to the sub floor! definitely use the underlay recommended by the manufacturer of the flooring. Follow his instructions about leveling the surface, too: that is also important. One big ?

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
Thanks Stuart
I was worried I'd be creating another leaf by adding the Underlay. Thought that by glueing it, it would count as part of the Floorleaf. But I guess i was over analyzing it. I'll use a self leveling compound and then lay the Laminate with the underlay. Perfect.
While i'm at ?, would it make sense to have my HVAC outlet blow into the bottom of one of the Hangers in the soffits upfront to help with the silencing. Or should I, as i've seen it more commonly done. Install the vent in the ceiling like i will be with the Exhaustvent. I'm reading through alot of interesting builds here on the Forum. Between Studying
of course
.
Are there any specific ones that are more similar to mine that you might have come across, that I could glean some knowledge off of. Soffits, wall construction, doors, Hangers etc. I've found tones of info on. This is a REALLY helpful site. With a Bunch of Awesome helpful Peoplers. Really love the What not to do when building your Studio List. Made me grin a few times.
Thanks again Stuart.

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
I wouldn't do that, and I doubt it would help very much anyway. Rather, I would check with an HVAC company in your area to find out what meets code, and what is the normal practice for HVAC registers in rooms such as home theaters.would it make sense to have my HVAC outlet blow into the bottom of one of the Hangers in the soffits upfront to help with the silencing.
That's the way I would go, yes. But as I said above, it would be best to check wit the folks who know how things work in your area.Or should I, as i've seen it more commonly done. Install the vent in the ceiling like i will be with the Exhaustvent.
I'm sure there are, but the forum is so hug now that it's hard to keep track of everything! Your best bet is still "search" feature: even though it isn't very good, it does the job, and with some judicious juggling of the search parameters, you can usually find what you are looking for. But even better, sometimes I find totally unrelated threads by accident, that turn out to be fascinating side-tracks, well worth the visit...Are there any specific ones that are more similar to mine that you might have come across, that I could glean some knowledge off of.

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
Another HVAC Question.
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... k&start=15
A link I saw on another Studio build.
My Question
Next to my CR I have a Utility room where my Heat-pump ( Waermepumpe ) is installed. The link or build above gave me the idea maybe falsely thought out by me. To be able to save room in my Ceiling for treatment, by installing the Silencer boxes with fans etc. in the Utility room instead of the Ceiling. in the LR & CR. Then install my Dehumidifier & ev. AC unit in the Utility room. Where the treated air will be withdrawn from. The Exhaust Air would flow through 2 separate Silencers use Separate Fans and Vent Directly into my Air-intake for my Heat pump where the warm air can be used. ( Energy recovered for Heating purposes ) Fresh Air will be Drawn in through the Heat-Pump Exhaust. Where when the Heat-Pump runs will Blow cool air into the Utility room. And during winter / colder season's be preheated through a heating Register mounted in the Utility room. Is that a plausible solution? I'll Try to Sketch a diagram and post it to make it easier to Visualize.
Thanks for the Help so far.
I'm Now working on Soffits for my outside window. And window frame from CR to LR.
I'll Try to post some pic's of that progress as well as I go.

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
You are basically talking about using that utility room as an exchange chamber, and yes, that will work. If you take a look at Rod's book, he shows you how to do that. But you'll need more than just a dehumidifier. You need an actual air conditioner of some type. The air needs to be cooled as well as dehumidified.

Re: Swiss Home Studio in Addition for a Canadian
I read a lot and heard a lot about Rod's book but haven't found it anywhere here in Switzerland to purchase. Nor a Title to look for other than Rod's book. maybe i missed something sorry for the ? if its a redundant one but under what Title do i find it etc. ??
another Silly question probably. As i see it the Silencers are mainly several bends in the air flow with inside insulation. Could one not do this with piping and insulation liner?? I'm a Plumber ( Day Job ) so to construct something with piping would almost be easier and faster for me, if it in end serves the same purpose and gets the same results?? I Was thinking of for the Plenum to increase the Ducting size by the insulation equivalent and then use either dense insulation or duct liner for the plenum section. Does this sound useless and crazy or could it work ??
Thanks for the input. Rene
