Construction of wall adjacent to house.

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Construction of wall adjacent to house.

Post by 0hz »

Hi everyone.
I am having an extension built to house our small home studio,
The internal walls and floor are about to go in and I am uncertain as to the detail of the wall construction against the existing house structure.
The studio will be for recording vocal and electronic music.

The diagram (sorry I know its rubbish !!) shows how the walls are constructed.

The new external wall has.. external brick, air gap, thermal insulation, high density block and it is proposed to hang a 30mm plaster board to it using dot and dab (basically glued to the block)

What concerns me is the old external wall which is standard construction, should we use battoning to hang the 30mm plasterboard or will it be sufficient to use dot and dab on this wall as well ?

I don't really understand how you can hang a wall without it making some form of contact with the existing structure.
