New boxes !?

Post by duki »

I intend to make a new box with the following drivers-

http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/18w-4531g00.pdf
http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/d2904-710003.pdf
http://www.europe-audio.com/document.as ... 830846.pdf

I already have this up, I am thinking of whether I put this one as the fourth or not?
http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/12mu-4731t00.pdf
to be 4 way box.

Some experience or opinion among experts please.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Duki, are you planning on doing active or passive crossovers? Are they going to be freestanding or flush mounted in the wall?

Hi Eric

Boxes will be active- freestanding , but I have only 3way router so I planned to go pasiv between treble and midrange and the rest to go actively.
so
treble-midrange ------ pasiv(with good capacitors) ? LR 12db
midbass-midrange ------ activ LR48 db?
bass - midbass ----------- activ LR48 db?

What do you think?

With this choice of drivers you could go 3 way just fine and cover all the territory that you need to. Cross at about 2.5 k and 350. Use the scanspeak mid and the peerless sub. They look like they should match fairly well. That way you could go active all the way and you don't have to worry about the complexity of designing a passive network where you would have to worry about correct phase, padding of the tweeter and baffle step compensation.

There really isn't any need to go with a 4 way. For most situations, a 2 way and an sub will work just fine.

Do you know how to use any of the free software for box design?

Hi Eric
Do you know how to use any of the free software for box design?
Yes some JBL software.

I think that would be better 12mu than 18w to the midrange from 700-3000 hz ... and because of that my idea was to add 12mu as 4th driver...
i do not know.I have not heard how 12mu is working is it much better then 18w or ..... i do not know?

You say, if I understand correctly that 18W can cover that area with the same quality?

I don't know the 12mu at all, but from the data it looks like a great speaker. Do you already own some of them? What is your plan for speaker configuration? TMW? TMMWW?

Yes Eric I already own :
http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/18w-4531g00.pdf
http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/d2904-710003.pdf
http://www.europe-audio.com/document.as ... datasheets\peerless\830846.pdf

My intention was to TMW but I have the impression that 12MU might work better 700-3000hz than the 18W so on the end I can do TMMWW, what is your opinion?

I would recommend an MTMWW or W/mtm/W. You want to have a similar distance interaction between the tweeter and mid. If you go with the TMMWW you might get some phasing issues. The other thing you need to think about is for mixing you won't want the Woofers firing so low. I think this would be a better formatImage

Hi Eric
I tried passively between the midrange and the tweeter, but
the difference is to big  .When pass through the capacitator lose a lot so I'll go 3way.

I applied the xover 350hz-2500hz and it is good, but I noticed that
the if I go 450hz is better working in the uper range of the midrange, perhaps it's because the box may be because drivers I do not know.?
