Hey, Steve! A new plan!

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Ah, yes, a new plan, more space to suck up. More fun with splinters.

My former live room is now my control room.

My barn is now my live room/lounge.

The good news: it's relatively unfinished. The 8'x8' corners are shear wall, stucco, 5/8" CDX and 2x4's, all open or easily cleared.

The bad news: the bar stays. And it's getting a fireplace. There's 2 lofts on the front and back, and the center is open to the roof with 2 skylights. They stay. The exhaust fan and bell tower stay too.

So I'm looking around here and I have 3 corners, roughly 8'x8' that look like a drum booth, a guitar amp closet and a vocal booth.

That's my new plan. Any suggestions?

Here's some new sketches.

Oh, and after 4 years of torment, the neighbor from hell is moving out.
Yeee-fuggin-ha!

I know the sliding door on the front is going to be a huge leak, so I'm planning another double slider there.

Congrats on your new life (minus the "NFH") wish I could get one of mine to experiment with drilling holes in propane tanks while smoking and playing with fireworks...

Soooo, hopefully you'll have a bit of time to study the "sticky's" a while, then we can start figuring out an attack plan... Steve

I've been looking at the design of a few of the control rooms around here and I think I've got the general idea, i.e., bass traps, slot resonators, no parallel walls, etc.

After looking at my floor plan, the desk should probably face the left wall instead of the 'north'. That puts my back to the live room, but it looks like the best wall for the job. I work alone most of the time, sometimes with one other person.

What I'm not terribly clear about is the angles of these walls. Also, I don't think I want to recess the speakers into the wall. Right now I'm using a pair of KRK 8"ers and if I move up to a bigger speaker I'll be looking at rebuilding the cavities.

The drum booth will be another challenge, but further down the road. I need to get the control room wrapped up.

Also I need to find a source for mineral wool for the floors and traps and the stiff board insulation (703?).

btw, the site is being cranky. When I hit 'post reply' it bangs me back to the index.

I'll try a new picture later this evening...
