Room problems

Post by FTA »

Hey guys, Noob here, I did read the rules so I will try to make this as painless on you as possible, I do not expect to be spoonfed, I just need a little help with a problem I'm having so, TIA.

My room:

This room is rectangular in shape.
This is actually a detached building from the rest of my house.
Dimensions:
22Ft Long
10Ft Wide
8Ft Tall
The walls are composed of particle board as it was used for a woodworking area before I moved in, the ceiling is sheetrock and the floors are carpeted with a concrete base.

Acoustic treatment:
all traps are DIY OC 703
Back wall:
the door is located on the "Back" short wall on the very far right side which has made it hard for me to do my bass trapping like I wanted, I did a foot tall, 4" thick bass trap in that corner above the door but that's all I could do without hindering the doors operation. On the other corner (back wall) opposite from the door I did a 4 foot tall 4" thick trap, in between these two traps I did a ceiling/wall straddling 3 foot X 2 foot 4" thick trap.

Front wall:
I did two 4'X2'X4" traps in the corners pushed all the way up to the ceiling (back walls are pushed up to the ceiling as well) and I did another ceiling/wall straddling 3'X2'X4" trap in between the two front bass traps.

Side walls:
I treated the FRP's with 2" OC 703 and also did a ceiling/wall straddling trap above the FRP's that are 4'X2'X2".

Monitor placement: (KRK RP8's) thought I better mention the model since they have front firing bass ports, not sure how much of a difference it makes with my problem.
Monitors form an equilateral triangle from the listening position @ 5'X5'X5'
Height-39 1/2" (center of speaker cone)
distance from rear wall-1 1/2' (to back of monitor)
distance from side walls-2 1/2'
The listening position is just short of the 38% rule, I sit at about 7 feet from the front wall where 8.36 is @ 38%

Ok so hopefully this is enough info for you to help, here is my problem.

All of my bass is migrating to the back of my room, when I sit in my listening position I get no low end and I mean none but when I walk to the back of my room it is absoluteley booming.

Like I said before, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, I've done a ton of research on how to properly set up my studio and have tried to do the best I can with it but now I'm at a point where I'm pretty much lost and need some guidance.

I do not have any room measurement software or mics and my budget is tapped out at this point so thats not really an option for me, I've read up on SBIR and tried to set up everything with good distances but I'm still having this problem.

Hope you can help, I need it.

Maybe you could make 2 more of the 2'x4' bass traps for the door corner and make them easily removable. The bottom one could be leaned up against the corner and the top one could be hung from a couple of hooks in the ceiling. Then you could stash them on a side wall when you're done with the session. You may need to put a bit of cushion on the bottom one where it leans on the wall/door so you don't get rattling.

I know it's a bit of a pain to have to deal with them every time you go in, but there's no reason it should take more than a minute to set up and take down.

Actually, it gets tons of replies... but replies are normally in response to questions: You didn't ask any! How can we answer your questions, if there aren't any? :)

Also, as I've learned during my build ...

They like pictures !

Also a drawing of the room ... most everyone uses Sketch-UP [Google, free] :)
