Hi, I don't have a lot of money to spend to make my room dead in spots. what is a good way to make a room dead and not spend a ton of money but it still look really really nice and professional. Aurlex is sooooo expensive, i need another way of doing it.
Thanks!

Wally,

Rob a bank?
Seriously, the preferred material for absorption is rigid fiberglass, or an equivalent made of rock wool or mineral wool. To make it look nice you then have to cover it with fabric. So pick any two from the following:
* Cheap
* Attractive
* Easy
That said, the goal is never to make a room "dead" sounding. For a good overview of acoustic treatment - besides all the good advice in this forum - see the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

WallsStreet,
There are lots of options out there. None of them are necessarily "preferred" in the sense that there is some sort of standard. Foam is one way to do it; glass fiber panels are another. There are myriad others. Performance-wise they can all be quite comparable. When it comes to looks, they are oftentimes anything but.
Anything else you can offer up in terms of information on your room(s)/situation would help us steer you to the right solution.

PS - "Rockwool," "mineral fiber" and "mineral wool" are all the same thing. Just thought I'd help clarify.
