Greetings,
I'm about to buy the isolation for TREATING a room. I know you suggest OC 703, I actually own some panels made with these. But this time I've found another material by Rockwool that is fairly cheaper I just want your approval.
I attached the PDF (it's in Spanish) but the graphs talk by themselves I guess.
It would be great if I could use this instead of 703 and use that money for other stuff regarding the studio.
Thanks
Is this Isolation material any good?

It looks OK; but isn't as good as 703 in the lower end of the scale. But if that's all you can get, then it should be OK: Just make it THICK!

I can get 703, but it will be considerable more expensive. should i still go with 703 is the difference that big?

Re: Is this Isolation material any good?
Here's the specs for 703, taken directly from the Owens Corning catalog:
Compare the coefficients for that against the stuff you are talking about, and you'll be able to see the difference.
For example, at 250 Hz. the stuff you found has a coefficient of around 0.7 A 4" thickness of OC-703 has a coefficient of 1.24 at the same frequency, and even the 2" stuff has 0.86
As you can see, there's a big difference. That stuff would probably be fine for treatment aimed at high frequencies, but I wouldn't use it for bass trapping.

Re: Is this Isolation material any good?
In the pdf it says the measurements were made with 2 " (50 mm) thick material not 4 " (100mm). so it would be competing against the 2" OC.
0.64 vs 0.86.
Is this still much difference?
one sheet OC is 15.5 dollars and one sheet of the other is 8.5 dollars. Is it worth the cost?

worst case, you build them with the lower absorption and find you need some additional later or maybe changing the spacing off the wall solves it. (as the tests are based on A mounting or flush to the wall).

You can probably use that stuff fine for areas where you are only interested in mids and highs, then use the 703 for bass traps. Save a bit of money...
