Building Studio in my basement... Any ideas??

Post by Rugen »

First off, I woul like to say hello to all of you!

I am in the early process of trying to design and layout a studio in my basement. I have attached a picture of the layout of my basement (excuse the pencil and graph paper...) I drew this to the best scaling as possible, and my measurements are about dead on - plus/minus an inch or so...

Here's what I got... The small room located on the right wall is my coal bin under my porch, I am planning on making this my Isolation Booth. The walls for the laundry room and furnace CANNOT be removed, which is near the stairs. The stairs go down towards the center of the basement. The L shaped object in the top right is my bar, and it is staying as well... The dot in the middle is an I-Beam Support, and the Dot at the top is my main drain. I have worked out a couple configurations, and I would like to see if any of you could look at theis and come up with some configurations so I can compare our ideas.

One configuration I came up with is splitting the availbale room in half running a wall from the stairs to the top wall. The left protion would be my control room which would include the bar  and the right portion my instrument room. I worked out some layouts in the control room, but I am open to suggestions. I can add walls, but cannot take out the walls you see there. My cielings are also only 7'6" from the floor to the exposed floor joists of my main floor.

The first picture is my basement without any configuration, the 2nd is my 1st Design, and the 3rd pic is my 2nd Design.

Thanks in advanced!

Rugen

PS. each little square is a 6" square... (2 squares = 1ft)

I see basic placement, but I dont see a floor plan layout. Are you looking to build rooms (in case I read your text 2 fast) or just a simple set-up

I am looking for any suggestions actually, room divisions, layouts, etc... The 2 bottom pictures show the rooms separated by a wall, only showing the left half of my basement.

So your true useable are is 13' x 19' with the side room for a vocal booth. You can actually build a decnt Control room and Live room with your seperate vocal booth.

Possiby a 13x10' control room and 13 x 9' live room for cutting drums or gtr

I used an area of about 13 x 25 to build a nice control room and Live room. The Live room is large enuff to accomodate a full Kit, bass and gtr Player if need be.

I'd do the live room on the norther part of your diagram and the CR on the sothern part with that booth off to your left side. Orient the CR facing the live room. The 8.5 x 5' section at the bottom below where I think you should orient your control room can function as a combo basetrap/elevated couch seating area off of your control room allowing you to build a large live room.

Hope that helps.
