Please help

Post by puretones »

Right I finally have my new space. It measures 33 by 21 feet. I need a control room, large as possible live room and small vocal booth. The vocal booth can also act as the sound lock. The door can be where we like. Please give me some ideas. I had many sleepless nights trying to come up with the best use for the space. We mainly record rock bands so the live room needs to be as large as poss.

Thanks for your help and an invaluble resource.

Well you have a nice sized space. Is it all WIDE open or are there posts. if it is wide open you have massive flexibility.

Search the threads there are lots of plans smaller than your space that can be modified to fit your space. You can have a nice sized CR and LR with a vocal booth in that space with a small Lounge to boot. :)

Also what is the ceiling Ht???

The ceiling is a pitched roof from 10 feet to about 18. There are no posts. We do not need a lounge area as there is an ajoining building we will use for this. There are no posts or any thing.

Sounds like you have great potential. I have no advice that would be better the experts here. However;
We mainly record rock bands so the live room needs to be as large as poss.
this sentence has me confused. Rock bands tend to be recorded relativley dry, so volume is not needed for room sound. What I see usually required, when bands choose to record several instruments at once, AND do overdubs later, is greater separation of the instruments.

Like I said scan the threads. There are some great Floorplans that will fit readily into your space. You might make slight changes to utilize all the space. :)

I have attached one as an example:

This is a 35x20 plan I found on here a while back. you could modify it as needed of course. The segmentation will allow you to cut drums seperate of vocals and gtrs when doing a rock band. :)

Also the Foyer area can be set up to allow you to cut another instrument or vocals as well.
