my accoustic corner panel (pic's)

Post by leon.payne »

Just thought i would post some pictures of the panel that i produced for my Control Room. After reading the masses of information on this forum i decided to give it a go.
I have another one to make tonight (hopefully) so i will post some more pictures of the process up shortly.

After measuring the corners i produced a skeleton frame in which hold the insulation and give me something to staple the material to.
The frame was produced using MDF and wood that had been donated free by a relative.
When i first started i was going to lay the insulation down flat allowing for the 600mm by 1200 panels to be cut as minimal as possible (so they would still be 1200 high, with only the width being trimmed). Half way through the test build (so to speak) i decided to change the plan to like more of a superchunk insulation placement (insulation stacked, utilizing its thickness).
I will take some pictures of all of this later for you to view.
I stapled material over the back to keep the finished panel as clean as possible.
The material over the front was chosen because i wanted to add a little design to the panels, it took awhile but i finally found something that ticked all the boxes.

I'm pretty chuffed with the finish on it, specially considering i have never made these before. :D

hope you like them.

I hung the final panel in the other corner and fired up my speakers. I have to say i way surprised the difference it made to the sound, my biggest single improvement yet!! the low end is no-longer boomy and is crisp and precise. :D :yahoo:

Hope you liked them. I will post up more as i add more treatment to the room.

that's a nice and cheap (as in low on buckaroons) way to build some absorbers, congrats :)

cheer Ro, it looks better in person to be honest, probably have some better pictures done at some point.
Next on the list are some larger absorbers for the rear wall. I'll take some more pic's (this weekend hopefully) as i go :D

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been a bit busy of late.
Anyways, i have started building the rear superchunk style panels for the rear corners and will post some more pictures up stortly. In the meantime i took 5 min out to play with a free app on the misses iphone. I know its not going to be brilliantly accurate but was only to serve as an indication. This is the result from the mix position.

the RTA on the ipad/iphone isn't too accurate so maybe get a hold of a nice omni mic and REW.
