Need help on Studio Design

Post by doorjam »

Howdy all,

I stumbled upon this site while looking for studio ideas and it is awesome. I would like to humbly ask your thoughts on how to layout my space. I am looking to separate it into a control room and a live room. Here is a picture of the space as it is now.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Hi...Just thought I'd add My limited knowlage ..and rather dodgy drawing for you ....
You could put a window or sliding door between the two rooms..
cheers

Do you have to use all of those doors??

Thats a good size space. I'm sure you could do alot with it.

I could move the 2'4" door anywhere along the wall it currently is on, but unfortunately, the other doors can't be moved. Thanks for the help so far!

I think he meant can you remove, seal or abandon any of those doors, or do you need to use them?

Got a budget for us to work with? Even if it's a just-scraping-by, give us an idea of what you have to work with. It'll help if we know what you'll be recording, too... you've got the space for a decent tracking room. Will you be soffit-mounting your speakers, or will they be free-standing?

If you want us to help collaborate on a design, we'd be happy to help (given that we have the time to do it- that varies)... we just need more info on what it is you're looking to do. I could rattle off what design ideas would work for me... but that'd be for me.

Good questions! Unfortunately, all of the doors must remain functional. The studio will be used for tracking and mixing individuals and small rock bands (4-5 piece) as well as rehearsal and recording space for my band (4 piece blues-rock crew).

The monitors will be free standing on the shelf of the console desk. My budget is $3000-$3500.

Hope this helps!
