Hi all... I am looking at hanging a 35# LCD monitor, using an adjustable monitor hanging bracket, on a 5/8 sheetrock RC1 wall. The sheetrock is held by RC1 on 24inch centers. My question is what would be the best way to hang this fairly heavy monitor.... 1) Use molly bolts to hold the bracket, taking care not to hit a stud or the RC1 2) Use the RC sheetrock, self-tapping screws to hold a piece of plywood large enough to then hold the Monitor bracket. Screw the wood into the RC1. 3) another option? thanks... jam
Bump... just hoping for a reply... I am about to attach the bracket. thanks...jam
I'd go for atleast option 1.
well that is the problem associated with RC walls. ;) can you hang it from the ceiling?
LOL... oops... The one thing I did not consider. Well actually one of many! But... seriously now what to do? The ceiling is RC also. I would really not want to hang a heavy monitor if I can avoid it. Are you saying the neither of my solutions will fly? jam

I would not consider anything other than at least option 2 - and then would want the plywood panel to be around 20" square - and glued to the drywall - as well as screwed to 2 pieces of the Resilient Channel - and I would also opt for the attachment of the hanger base to be using through bolts rather than just screwed into the plywood. The way your post reads - you have a single layer of drywall? Is that true? If hung from the ceiling I would still go for carryingf the load on 2 seperate pieces of channel - and get the plywood base large enough to really distribute the load well between the 2. Rod
Thanks Rod... Hitting 2 RCs I thought would be important too. I guess i could attache the plywood square to the rc using the self tapping screws and then attach the monitor bracket using molly bolts. If i wanted to put a speker shellf etc. I suppose the same technique would/should be used. And yes on the one sheet of sheetrock 5/8" I made the door jam hang out an extra 5/8" just in case I needed to put another sheet on, but so far my tesing has been such that I do not think I will need that much isolation. With a band going full blast my wife can not hear us AT ALL in the house! jam
