Hello! I am designing a studio for use in my basement. The area I am using is roughly 14 wide x 33 long x 7 feet high. I am trying to make two rooms by dividing the area roughly into 1/3 and 2/3. The bigger room was once a finished family room with a 10 x 4 foot window on one side and a fireplace on the other. I am keeping both the window and fireplace but making the room soundproof for recording while trying to maintain great sound and atmosphere. The small room will be a control/tracking room. My questions are on room ratios, Sepmeyer, Louden, Volkman, Boner, Golden ect. 1. Do they apply to lets say a modern control room design that is perfectly symmetrical but not rectangular??? 2. How if at all do the apply to a room that is not symmetrical??? 3. If you can't get these to work for the area you are using, would the next best thing to do be to make sure the WxLxH aren't the same or multiply to be the same??? Any Info????
when building a symmetrical room which is no rectangular, use the average of the room dimensions which will be close enough. if you select a good ratio for the control room, then use whatever is left for the live room, then you should be ok. the biggest problem is the multiple of the height to width. maybe something like 1:1.4:1.9 or 1:1.3:1.9 works for putting the CR on the side and leaves about 14x23 for the live room, which overall is not too bad.
Ok right on that helps. I was really worried about not quiet making the live room dimensions work. Thanks!
