hello all, my name is dan and i live/work in st petersburg ,fl. ive been in the audio world for the last 10 years and have mostly worked at small local facilities and for myself with a portable system. a few years ago my parents purchased a daycare center and a 10000 sq ft building. as luck would have it there was a fairly good sized room in the middle that was to go unused and my studio quickly took up residence there. the building sits in the middle of a large office complex and there is almost no one there in the evening/weekends which gives me a decently quiet setting to make as much noise as i want. the room sits in the middle of the building and has multiple walls between it and the outside walls of the building. there is a drop ceiling at the height of 8'10" and the actual roof is about 10' above that. most of the interior walls rise to 12' (approx. 3' above the drop ceiling). about 2 years ago i split the large room into 2 smaller rooms by building a hefty wall with a window in it for visual communication. the wall consists of 4 layers of 5/8" drywall on staggered studs on 2"x10" beams. if at all possible i would like to leave this wall as is. ive been working with sketckup for the last hour trying to draw up the control room and will attach the file. the window pictured looks into the live room. for now i just want to make the control a better sounding place to work. my budget is going to be determined by the responses here but hopefully i can keep it under $2500 to start.
questions:
1.what type of lay out do you guys recommend for the room?
2.if i want to soffitt mount the monitors what should the front corner angles be? 30? 45?
3. any other suggestions are more than welcome.

maybe a wide control room layout?
that looks really good! one of the major issues with the room is the left/right walls. i was hoping to find a way to make them non-parallel while still maintaining the use of the door on the lower left wall. ive spent weeks reading these forums and days drawing different floor plans and cant find one that feels right. i will attach one of the floor plans and maybe you guys can tell me where the major issues would be with it. i really cant thank you guys enough for the help.
gulfo- im guessing the triangular shapes on the left/right walls are slot resonators. do you think they would be enough to tame the sound between those walls?
thanks for the help, dan b.
oh yeah... the red areas in the floorplan are the doorways into the control room and live room. they lead to a common hallway.
the slot resonator plan on the bottom works for me.
are there any problems that you can see with building the walls as proposed?
im really open to any suggestions anyone may have.
thanks again, dan b.
