hello folks here,
i' ve been around this forum for two weeks and learned a lot. very nice!
I have the project of building a studio in an old barn : first i want to build a control room for mixing and mastering purposes.
The room is 6,20 meter long ; 4,30 meter large and the height could be as much as 5meter. walls are bricks
The neighbours are at 5meters away.
The budget is about 9000 Euros for the materials
I have some questions:
- what height do you think would be the best for that room?
- after reading different topics i think timber floating floor would be appropriate for me but i've read about 2 ways of doing it:
firts in the John Sayers SAE docs: the floor is timber-floated then the inner walls are builded on that floor.
second in posts on the forum: the inner walls are floated then the floor inside the room is floated.
What difference and what do you think would be appropriate for my room?
I think the project of the "anonymous control room" in the JohnSayers site is close to mine and i would be glad to adapt it to my room
could someone help me (plans, design etc...)?
thanks to you
new control room in france

the tall ceiling height is nice. if you can adapt one of John's control room designs that would be a good first start. I would take advantage of the tall ceiling to add in overhead trapping so you can get as much usable space on the floor - although mix and mastering rooms usually have different configurations.
as far as floating, i think the walls sitting on the floating floor will give you more effective isolation as the whole assembly is ensured to be separated and sealed and less likely to have gaps or structure shifts in the case where the floor and walls were floated separately.
