Hey Guys
Stumbled across this site today and thought it was the perfect place to get some advice.
I'm a 20 year old IT Trainee so I earn pretty much NOTHING a week lol. Anywho I've got my own house and it has a double car garage with concrete flooring that I never use
My band has been getting a good wrap lately so we decided we want to build a home studio to get a chance to sit down and really work our stuff out before we hit the road to play some shows
Problem is I have no idea how to do it correctly, and I need to do it as cheap as possible, it doesn't need to be PERFECT but I do want it to be decent
Anyways my dad and I were just going to start putting the frame up in the next week or two, so my questions are
SHOULD I - Make a floating floor, or just use carpet over the concrete (cheaper option, which sounds better?)
WHAT- Sort of plaster should I use. I've gotten mixed feedback that the Soundcheck (soundproof) plasterboard is great but expensive, others say that it's not the plasterboard it's the Insulation that counts
WHAT- Insulation is the best to use?
I've also heard you can get some sort of wall foam that is meant for accoustics? Is this good? What is it called? And is it expensive?
I will take some photos of the shed next week and run through the process of it all as it goes along but any help would be greatly appreciated :D
Studio in my Shed?

sound isolation (that works) can be costly depending on how far you need to take it. if you could read the stickies you find the type of questions that need to be answered for folks here to be more effective in helping you. also, read up on the SAE site and poke around a number of threads here to get most of the answers to the questions you've asked... they very much the same ones people ask every day here...
Thanks for the advice, I'll get some specific information about the shed and whatnot and post it up. I'll check out those resources but from what I've read people seem to have mixed feelings as to whether soundproof plaster is really worth the extra cash if you have insulation and whatnot.
Neighbours aren't a problem, just want it to quieten down so I can practice after midnight and all that.
Anyways thanks again :)
The product that you suggest here is more dense and that is the reason it is recommended over standard sheetrock. But insulation as part of a wall assembly adds to the walls ability to isolate sound. So it is not whether the rock is better then the insulation because the two products together give a better result then one of them or the other alone....soundproof plaster is really worth the extra cash if you have insulation...
