I live in New York and I was wondering if there was a school in my area or anywhere for that matter where one could learn all this great stuff. Not to say that I havent learned a lot of great stuff on this forum. I just learn a lot more when i have an actual human in front of me to explain things, show examples, dumb things down, etc.
can anyone steer me in the right direction?
School for acoustics/studio design??

The two best and closest to you, IMO, would be Rensselaer and Hartford. If not restricted to the NY area, there are many great programs in the US and around the world:

Another excellent program not on that page:
Columbia College
And - for more real-world training (as opposed to college):
Syn-Aud-Con
Good Luck!
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I'm in Iceland there are no studio designing schools anywhere near me, so I might as well just go to the best school available. What schools would you recommend?
Salford in The United Kingdom. One of the best acoustics programs in the world. AndreSince I'm in Iceland there are no studio designing schools anywhere near me, so I might as well just go to the best school available. What schools would you recommend?
Penn State University has an "online" option for their graduate acoustics program:

PSU has one of the best acoustics programs in the US, at least at the graduate level.
All the best,
You can make a module from the MSc Audio Acoustics at Salford Univ. in distance learning. They have a module on Room Acoustics (part is small room acoustics, another part is large room acoustics and also absorbers/diffusors). Not sure if the module is different when I did the MSc in Acoustics there. I suppose is the same. You will need some basis on math but actually this is one of the easiest modules in the program. It is a bit theorical as well, but most degrees are.
They also have another module Numerical Tehcniques which is related to software prediction (using Odeon and FEM/BEM) but the only part of interest in Odeon and limitations in software prediction in large room acoustics, the assignments regarding FEM/BEM were about loudspakers.
If you understand spanish Le Salle Univ. also offers distance learning in acoustics
Did not know about Penn State University ! Lots of stuff there !
