I purchased 3/4" rubber to place the Control room glass on, but as it turns out I will only be able to afford 1/2" glass. Would it make a difference to use the 3/4" rubber with the 1/2" glass, or should I get 1/2" rubber?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Rubber for Control Room Window

Pete,
Please check this question again. What you seem to ask now it has sense to use that rubber, but I assume you mean something else.I purchased 3/4" rubber to place the Control room glass on, but as it turns out I will only be able to afford 1/2" glass. Would it make a difference to use the 3/4" rubber with the 1/2" glass, or should I get 1/2" glass?
Sorry. I meant, should I get the 1/2" rubber to match the 1/2" glass? Or will 3/4" rubber work the same or better with the 1/2" glass?
i would think you would get the same result.
why would you want the glass sitting 3/4" off the window frame - typical in the industry would only be around 1/4" clearance all around the glass - and it should not be a soft rubber (which is what I picture in my minds eye when people just say rubber) it should be glazing shims (setting blocks) made of PVC, high impact polystyrene, or other hard plastic type material suitable for the work. Hi Rod, Thanks for your reply. I bought your book and it's been a great deal of help. What I'm talking about is the Neoprene Rubber that's under the glass in your diagram for building a wall with the control room glass.
The idea, if I understood correctly, was to measure the glass with only allowing space for one side of the neoprene. So, the 3/4 inch neoprene would be compressed to half it's size on all sides when the glass is actually installed on it.
Is this not correct?
