maybe flip it (top to bottom) with the door into the live room or add a small air lock there.
I agree wih Glenn. From your drawing, it looks flipping it will locate the column in the walls.

but the column would be in the direction of the glass?

so be it. somethings you have to live with... the column by the glass probably isn't going to be a big issue. if you can move the pillar then it can solve all the problems...
