Hi all,
I'm newbie in studio field and have read some threads in this great forum. Actually, I'm afraid to post my topic here cos I guess there're several threads also include the answers. But I can't find the one same with my room so I would like to know your suggestions for my studio.
My studio is just a simple 2 rooms studio; control room (15 x11.5 x9) and recording booth (8 x11.5 x9). In control room, I will record all line recording such as guitars and K.B. And in recording room, I will mic Vocals and Drums. But currently I don't record drum yet and so soundproofing for my studio is O.K now.
But like my image, I can't place my monitors in symmerically in my control room. I wish I were know the important of symmeric monitoring before I make the wall between control and recording rooms. But now I already make my seperate wall and the window btween two rooms is not in the centre of the wall. So it's very difficult to place my monitors in symmetrically.
So, please advice me where should I place my monitors and some treatments idea for control room. And for the recording room should I place foam in everywhere in the walls for recording vocals?
Thanks,
Sevenways
Symmeric and Acoustic treatments help

one option - place the monitors on stands right behind your desk and reduce the width and angle of their positions (say 15-20 degrees instead of 30) and make the listening triangle size based on that.
another option, this may be one of the rare cases where you turn the CR sideways and deaden the "back" wall quite a bit (not fully) this way you can get symmetry to your layout and also the side reflections are longer even if the front-back is now shorter.
Actually, you probably can. In a room 15 feet long, the ideal place for you to listen is about 5-6 feet back from the front wall you face. Once you're that far back you might be able to be centered left and right and still have room for the door to open and close?I can't place my monitors in symmerically in my control room.
There's plenty of treatment and placement advice all over this forum. There's also my Acoustics FAQ which puts much of it all in one place: http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html --Ethansome treatments idea for control room. And for the recording room should I place foam in everywhere in the walls for recording vocals?
Hi Glenn and Ethan thanks so much for your advice.
I already know you are acoustic experts and I really appreciate both your advice. And now as your advice, I made two image and fill some treatments in control room. Which one do you prefer for monitor placement.
In P1, the listening position is 38% from front wall but in my situation, the recording room door is a little difficult to open in that position. If I place the monitors about 5" to left side wall from the centre, It's ok to open but not symmetric. So should I do like that?
And in P2, I don't know how to place trements for first reflections from the windows like in my image. So how about your suggestions?
Thanks,
Linn
p1 - reverse the door opening into the live room and center the desk?
p2 - hang heavy drapes over the windows when mixing?
Hi there,
Now I hav choosen P1 placement.
So my lisitening position is 5'7" (38% rule) from front wall and also 5'7" (centre) from both side walls.
I would like to know that the SAME distance from front wall and side walls for listening position can make any bad sounding?
Thanks,

it shouldn't be an issue since the side walls will have different path relationship to your ears and you'll be applying first point reflection absorbers.
