I posted a while back here
I may start building in November/December.
But I was wondering if anyone had some thoughts about the following ideas... I am wondering about the shape of a vocal booth. What do you think of the 45 degree wall or the straight wall for a vocal booth???
I thought maybe the 45 degree wall would lessen some resonate frequencies.
Thanks!
vocal booth shape in studio above garage

I have no idea.... but I'm glad you posted, as I was able to follow the links and read about other "above the garage" studios.
:D
the angled booth gives you more space and breaks up parallel wall echos. resonant modes will still exist regardless of room shape.
I'm considering using double wall construction for the front, back and knee walls. I will probably have to use drywall on RC for the side walls and ceiling.
If that doesn't give me enough sound isolation, I may use Green Glue on the floor and walls and add another layer of drywall.
If I still need more isolation after that, I can tear out the drywall in the garage ceiling and decouple that ceiling from the floor above.
I plan on doing a good amount of treatment, using 703 type panels in the corners and first reflection points.
I have a few more pics here
sounds like a reasonable plan. i'd try to take advantage of the 10' ceiling height if possible. with the angled ceiling though you'll want to hang some clouds down the length of it to control any concave ceiling effects.
:D
Awesome picture, Gullfo!! Thanks!
That fires me up. I'm ready to build the darn thing today!
I was going to buy the Mansfield equivalant of a 703 panel, put two of them back to back in a frame and cover w/ cloth.
Is that the type of thing you have in the corners?
the corners are poly - 1/8" ply lined with insulation (can be pink. the remaining space can be loosely packed with insulation. save the manfield insulation for clouds and wall/ceiling asborbers and inside John's slat resonator cabinets, and the back wall absorber.
Do you think the stairwell will have a negative effect on the vocal booth? Possibly causing echos/reverb from the stairwell?
He's got a door in there, it opens up against the wall as you enter the booth coming up the stair case.
Little piece of it showing over the top right portion of the rear wall absorber.
