Hi there... My double windows has got some sort of "rash" on the INSIDE!!! Why..for god sakes, why... taking them down again would be something I's rather not do...everything done according to john and steves plan for building double windows. except that we couldn't find any silica gel to put in there...maybe that's the problem Anybody got a good advise as how to get rid of the mess...??? oh please

Lasso, assuming that what I am seeing is moisture (if it is it should be very obvious to you) and not dust from within the wall cavity - then you really need the silica - either way -- the only way to fix this is to take one side apart to get into the window cavity.......... I assume that you very carefully cleaned the inside of glass to a lint free condition before placing the 2nd piece of glazing. Sorry - I know it isn't what you want to hear - but even if you opened a wall to sneak the dissicant in - the windows are streaked now and need to be recleaned. As far as source goes - just google "silica gel desiccant" and you'll get over 250,000 references - a lot of which are suppliers. Rod
Thanks Rod. It ain't dust. I guess I knew what was coming but needed a second opinion and hoped for a quick fix. Since that doesn't exist: Off we go windows - all 160 pounds of you...arg... Guess it pays to do it right the first time anyway. Sonething that's not quite clear to me: the space between the frames - where people normally would put cloth or thin wood (in my case it's very thin wood) - would you fil that cavity with isolation or leave it to let the cinstruction breathe? In my case, I stuffed the cavity with isolation.
So, How much silica and where can I get some?

As far as ho9w much - any manyfacturer should be able to give you exaclt amounts for a cavity of "X" volume...... As far as where to get some - try reading my last post completely - I hate to have to say the same thing over and over............ Rod
OOOPS ! Sorry. Thanks.
The silica gel is very often used in labs and photo darkrooms. So check out suppliers in those areas.
