Hi Guys, I’m in the ready to build stage now, but still have some details to figure out yet. Below you’ll see pics and a sketchup file of where I’m at right now. I would highly appreciate any criticisms, suggestions, warnings, etc. The room is a converted 25x11 one car garage with a vaulted ceiling shape. The control room must stay the single wall construction that it is for now due to budget. The Iso room however will be a full room within a room construction to minimize the drum kit volume leaking out to the neighbors. No floating of the floor though. I plan to use 2 sliding glass doors to maximize the visual communication and to be free from the space hogging swing out area a traditional door takes up. The dividing wall which will serve as the iso room’s outer leaf is already in place, so that one element is set in stone. All of the internal leaf walls are wide open to suggestions. The big head scratcher for me is: should I splay the walls (& sliding doors) in room like this? How would I go about calculating a “golden ratio” with a ceiling the shape of the one I have? How would I support the internal leaf ceiling of that shape on splayed walls? Would inside out walls make more sense because of it being such a small area? I would also like to soffit mount my speakers (Mackie HR824s) as pictured, but I’m wondering about the soffit shape that would be required to accommodate the mackie’s depth and still maintain the 60 degree angle for proper monitoring. Keeping in mind that a sliding glass door will be between them on an 11’ wide wall. Pay no attention to the Height of the speakers themselves….I still have to calculate that. Notice how the soffits “cut off” at the top because of the difficult ceiling shape. Does anyone see a problem with what I’ve come up with? Any problems with the desk a little off center to make a wider walk way to the iso room? By the way, I also must come up with an operable window & skylight plug by request of the owner, but I plan to cross that bridge when I get to it. I am open to ideas however. It looks like my 3D sketchup file is too large to upload. I can e-mail it to whoever is interested. If you need more info, I’ll post it right away. Thanks!

My only concern with that layout is carrying equipment from the entrance around/over the console to get to the live room. Have you considered something like this: http://johnlsayers.com/Stuff/Small_Studio.skp It's very similar dimensions to your room and may even gain you more space in the live room.
Thanks Knucklehead. I did actually consider a very similar design to the one you posted. It ended up losing in the end because of the funky ceiling shape in my situation as well as the windows (which I can't remove due to owner), and the fact that I've always had better luck with longer rather then wider control rooms. That sketchup file is very valuable regardless with all of the building detail in it. Thanks for that! As for the gear loading walkway, I was thinking to position the desk a little to the right so there would be a "standard 36" door width clearance for gear. I'm using an argosy desk, so the far right side is rack space only, so even with the offset desk, the mixer and transport controls will still be in the sweet spot. My biggest concern with is if this breakup of symmetry would cause unbalanced reflections off of the desk. Perhaps this isn't so much of an issue with soffit mounted speakers, or maybe I could put a 703 absorber across the back of the desk?
