Hello all. This is my first post to this site. :D I have reviewed countless files and appreciate the information that is located here. My project is located in North Texas, USA. I have spent the last sixty days finishing out the office space that occupies the front portion of the building where my studio will be located. The building is 6000 square feet total, and the studio will occupy approximately 1600 SF in the rear of the building. I am ready to start the framing the studio walls and ceilings, which will be inside the existing superstructure. The date of this post is 10.22.07. My budget is ample, but not an open checkbook. I will say no if the cost of a particular item or change is too overwhelming to justify. The main building structure is prefab concrete tilt wall with steel bar joists and fluted structural steel roof decking. The roof is 2” of sprayed polyurethane over a previously existing built-up roof. The studio area floor is currently a concrete slab. The steel roof deck is virtually flat (very minimally sloped) and is 10’10” from the floor. The interior perimeter walls are 5/8” gyp, taped and bedded, furred out 3 ½” from the precast with fiberglass batt insulation in the cavity between the gyp and the concrete wall. The building is located in a “mixed use” area, meaning I have residential and commercial neighbors. The closest concernable neighbor is located approximately 100 ft from the building. I have uploaded a .jpg of the project. The studio area in the diagram is 39'0" x 39' 0". I am planning to use the existing perimeter gyp walls. The doors leading to the studios are solid core. The new walls and ceilings are to be 2 x 6 wood framing, 16” o.c. , with batt insulation and a layer of 1/2” soundboard (material is presently unspecified) and 5/8” gyp on each side of the walls and the inside of the ceiling. The windows will be two layers of ¼” tempered glass at angles. The doors will be full view insulated glass with thresholds and weather-stripping where visibility to other areas is a concern, and solid core slabs otherwise. The ceilings in the tracking room will be basically flat and will consist of the existing exposed metal decking and bar joists, painted black. All other rooms will be gyp ceilings, also basically flat. The ceiling in the main tracking room will be 10’-10” and the ceiling height of the other areas will be 8’ – 10”. Unfortunately, the ceiling in the engineering room will be flat. I am open to suggestions on how to improve this situation. I have not included double walls in the design, because I felt that the vestibule areas, which provide traffic lanes or “hallways” from area to area, would serve as the “gap” between walls. A five ton AC unit is located on the roof immediately over the engineering room. Special sound attenuation baffles have been installed in the return air vents to reduce moving air noise from the system. I am not well versed on the subject of bass traps, so I am unclear as to whether or not the bass trap location in the Main Tracking Room will help or not. Also, I am curious about possible locations for bass traps in the engineering room. I am entirely open on the subject of interior room finishes, but I am planning 5” maple flooring, glued directly to the concrete, in the main tracking area and the isolation rooms. I welcome any and all comments or questions. I will post pictures and floor plans as questions or comments request, and progress photos as I move further forward with the project. I hope I have included enough info to stimulate some feedback. Thanks Larry Dillon Founder Wavelight Studios, LLC [removed]

Sorry for the difficult to see .jpg, when I previewed the original post it was just a little too big and unfortunately I sized it down too much. I"ll repost a better floor plan (with lots of dimensions) tomorrow and also some pictures of the raw area I am working with.
Here's a resized version... I'll post some pictures and a fully dimesioned version later. The studios specific areas (not including the storage areas or studio "B", which is a future endeavor) are 39'0" x 39'0". The engineering room is approximately 25 x 17 x 8'10" high. The main tracking room is approximately 30' x 20' x 11'0".

Aloha and welcome to the forum, Looks like you've got a very nice project there. Just curious, :D what kind of bass trapping is planned for the control room? Aloha 8)
Aloha, Jerry... love your great state. Actually, I was thinking that the mixing desk monitors would be installed in the 45 degree walls behind the mixing desk, with bass trap designed around them (not shown in floor plan). I could also afford to lose closet (if abosolutely necessary) on the side of the couch in the mixing area. This might open up an opportunity to bass trap on either side or both sides of the couch. I was quite unclear how the widening of the engineering room on the couch end would help or hurt me. Any suggestions would be great and well appreciated. Framing starts real soon. Thanks so much for your interest. :D Larry D
Aloha, I had a couple of thoughts to run by you. If you would check your PM. Thanks! Aloha 8)
