Overview: I plan to use part of this space for a rehearsal space/live room. The other part I would like use as a control room. Dimensions: 37' x 29' x 8.5' Building is a converted textiles mill in New Bedford, MA USA. The room used to be a private men's club complete with bar, stage, and bench seats. All of which can be removed. There is a bathroom and storage closet that I did not include in the drawing as they can't be altered and are not part of the floor plan. I have attached a crude MS Paint drawing until I can get SketchUp to work in Vista. Materials/surfaces: Floor – Painted concrete Ceiling – Drop ceiling with 2x4 melt-away styrofoam panels (can't be altered) Walls – Left wall is painted drywall (if looking through door into room), Far wall is painted brick, Right wall is ¾ painted brick and ¼ painted drywall, Back wall is painted drywall. Volume: The room will be primarily used for Hard Rock music. Neighbors are all bands as well so isolation may be a problem. I'm willing to build new walls if necessary for room-within-a-room. My questions are: What are some design ideas for a tracking room and control room? What can I do to treat the rooms to make it acceptable for tracking and as a control room? Your advice and insight is much appreciated. Thanks, -Chris

i think unless you can change the ceiling you're pretty much wasting your money. without the ability to add proper isolation to all the walls and ceiling, you're always likely to end up with too much noise. in theory you could add a layer under the existing ceiling and still have about 8' of head room. in which case I'd lay it out something like this: I'd keep the bar if possible though 8) - reposition it somewhere in the live room...
