This is one of my first posts...i only replied a long time ago to a guitar hum problem in the wiring forum. the details: i have a small room. 12 x 13 x 8 with an openning into another room that is 10x 13. i dont have pictures, my cell phone camera is awful btw. essentially i am thinking of making OC 703 bass traps that are 16 inches, which will let me make 4 of them 8ft tall but 6 inches thick...instead of 4 of them 24 inches wide but only 4 inches thick i will place them in the corners. its in a small house which i converted into a recording studio. i havent tracked in there yet, but i KNOW i want to get rid of early reflections. the ceilings will get 2 inch 703. i would love to know what the pros and cons are? 24 inches but 4inches thick or 16 inches and 6 inches thick? both would be 8ft tall...from floor to cieling. any help would be appreciated. i'm in YORK PA. in a small house which is detached. double walled -room within a room. double 5/8ths drywall. but not much isolation to the upstairs control room. 8 ft celings. i want to reduce as much reflection as possible. laminate floors. and i have 6-8 2ft x 4ft 4 inch thick bass traps that i will be putting on the walls. (not corners) thank you so much in advance. if i left out any details. please let me know.i will try to get pictures asap. thank you... i love the forum! Durv
did i not abide by the forum rules? anyone have any thoughts? please? <3 Durv
I should go for the 24 inches but 4inches thick rather than the 16 inches and 6 inches thick
i would love to know what the pros and cons are?
The 6" will absorb better, but become closer to the wall (I haven't drafted this. The higher width of the 4" will bring them further out of the corner and the width also relates to the wavelength and lower frequent edge effect.
so in this case, surface area is more important than the "thickness"? 6 inches vs. 4 inches. but compromising the surface area. i know its probably all theoretical in my particular case. i just want to make sure that i dont miss an opportunity to go the 2 inches thicker if it would help. anyone else? thanks again.
