Hi everybody from Almonte, Ontario, where I'm building a comfortable 2,600 cubic foot control room, and double that on the live side.
My q's are electrical, and while I have my talents as an engineer, I fail miserably here. I kinda go by feel, which is a rather bad way to approach electricity... I've gleaned a lot of info off the site already, BUT...
For the live room, my electrician has asked me for specs on what'll be on, so that was easy. I lined up the specs from five potent guitar amps, effects, key amps, my P.A. and some keyboards. I appreciate that he needs this kind of information, but where I simply can't nail it down is in the (more critical) control room...
The complex features a retail division, and a music academy. The studio is roughed in, and over time will be completed, but my electrician's there now (right now) and he's asking for answers...
Right now, my DAW setup is class 'project' with a half dozen high-end preamps (www.sageelectonics.com, SE-1's), a Furman, an M-AUDIO Delta 44, PC and a whack of plug-ins, Yorkville active monitors, and a few other monitoring options using a Crest power amp.
The walls are framed on the school side, and it's already showing signs of taking off and making lots of capital fast with my simple web marketing efforts (www.missisippimillsmusicworks.com) and word of mouth. I plan to pour all of the profits into the studio for years to come, and while I'm probably going to start with an RME Fireface 800, at the rate they're building new stuff, I really have no idea what kind of gear I'll be collecting apart from a B3 and an old Leslie cab (anyone know what these draw?)...
So I fully realize I don't offer much info. But I'm trying build a world-class studio (without the full price tag all on day one), and I want to get the electrical done right the first time (now!). Can anyone tell me what my electrician wants to hear? Or what they've done in similar situations that have turned out well when lots of top shelf gear has been added? I know I'll be monitoring through Tetra 120U's, (www.tetraspeakers.com) and will power them (until I can afford something sweeter) with the Crest, but a comprehensive list of gear seems to be like a game of pin the tail on a live, savvy donkey while on LSD or something stronger...
I've read 3 @ 20 amp circuits is enough for a project studio: 1 for DAW, 1 for monitors, and 1 for gear; but to my recollection that was enough for a "project studio," which is something I'm trying to leave out of the equation...
Any help, or lemme guess... too ambiguous?
Thanks in advance,
