Hi! First let me say that finding this forum was a dream come true! Its so great to find someone that can help in this complicated subject. I have attached jpeg`s and a 3d renders of my exact room and all the dimensions are provided. I am in Denver CO. and have a bedroom studio used to create mostly dance music. I am using a pair of Adam A7 monitors on speaker stands 3ft high. The room I am in is the master bedroom in the apartment I rent (only neighbors below this room are a issue for bass). I have a big closet in the room with sliding glass doors. I also have a window on the other side of the room. The material of the walls are Sheetrock and wood studs, and the ceiling is textured. The floor is a top floor apartment, and only have people below me. The floor is carpet and underneath that is wood. From floor to ceiling is 8ft high. I have a wood desk I made as the control booth, and there is a wood bookshelf for my records that is 3ft by 5ft tall. Things I would like addressed: I have set this room up where the control booth was in the middle of the room, and was facing the longer walls with a bunch of aurlex. I had a serious problem with no bass at the control booth position. Also this room naturaly is very pingy, and when you clap is echos bad. I would like to know the optimal setup position for the control booth in this room. I bought a bunch of aurlex foam from a old studio that moved. I went out and also bought sheets of insulation foam 3/4 in thick and glued pieces of the foam to the insulation foam (see jpegs). I hung these sheets on the walls in different positions to take away the corners, and thats when I had the bass issue. I have 3 big sheets I made. I know my monitors are very flat, and I would like to get the most out of them. They do have eqs on the back, but I haven't messed with them because I do not know what I am doing. If you could help me set my eqs on my adams a7 that wold be nice too. I have tons of this aurlex foam in sheets and only a couple of bass traps. I would like to not have to spend anymore money on acoustic options, as I have bought all this aurlex. If you really think I need to spend money though, I could spend about $200. I would also like to eventually add a sub, if you have time could you tell me where approximately would be a good position for that too. My control booth or desk is 72in by 24in and 30in high and is plywood. In the 3d model you will see the area I would like to make a small vocal booth area out of. Is there anything I should do about sound in there? Foam ect? If you could just guide me as if the room was empty, I will move whatever I need to, and put up the aurlex in any areas I need to. If you have anymore questions please let me know, I will get back to you asap. Thanks so much for your help! Kevin

nice work on the drawings. i think if you do a search on bedroom studio or treat bedroom you'll find a lot of information on what to do (i know i've posted some in the last couple of weeks). there are options such as constructing furniture style treatments as found in John's wall unit page, or using rigid fiberglass/mineral wool ala Real Traps or GIK absorbers. generally speaking 50% on any axis is going to have a null for a given frequency based on that axis dimension. dimensions that are close or are multiples of each other will reinforce room modes.
I have done some research on bedroom studio, but the one thing that it lacks is specifics on my room shape, thats why I spent a lot of time making these drawings and 3d render`s, because I wanted technical advice on my specific situation. I do have to say I have learned a lot doing research on that though! If you want to help visually feel free to download the jpegs and 3d render file, and add your advice, thanks! Kevin
well, there's a couple of approaches to take - build treatments based on measurements made on the room, or use broadband treatments to accomodate the small space. i'd opt for the latter. since your bedroom is pretty much a stock 11x13 bedroom, there are numerous examples of types, positions, and construction techniques for creating a balanced room on this site... as far as the vox booth, i think the clothes closet by itself will be too small, i'd build it out as a larger booth or use gobo panels to create vox booth.

Ok cool, couple of questions though. So the control booth should definitely be there? Where should the monitors go? It seems like the sweet spot for the bass is the monitors to be 6ft from where I am sitting, is that seem right? I wont be able to buy those gobos since I just spent alot on that aurlex. With just using the aurlex foam can you tell me where I should place that? Thanks! Kevin
basically the monitoring position is 38% of the room length from the front wall. with the monitors about 70% of the room width apart forming an equilateral triangle on 60 degree legs. the vox booth can be in the corner as shown or in the middle - just watch rear reflections from it. I'd check the Auralex site for recommendations although someone hanging out in the acoustics forum will know something about it... http://www.acoustics101.com/ http://emusician.com/aux_hardware/emusi ... treatment/

awesome thanks so much for your help, I just setup everything like you showed me and it sounds good! Last question my monitors are only 6.5 woofers, and dont put out that much bass, do you think at that point that bass traps are kind of pointless, or do you think that its a concern? Thanks
so the bottom end is limited to around what? 60-70hz? that's still low enough for troublesome room modes and standing waves and resonances to make life more difficult than it needs to be... so bass trapping will still add the necessary control to your space.
So what is all needed as far as to bass traps, defusers ect. Is there a kit that you recommend with out breaking the bank?
