I am trying to decide what ceiling I should go with for my basement studio. I wanted to go with a sheetrock with rc clips ceiling in my studio but my dad was leaning towards the ceiling tiles so he can still access the wires and plumbing for the house. So my question is is their any major difference between this set up (floor above- insulation- ceiling tiles) or this setup ( floor above- insulation- rc channels- sheetrock). Any ideas would be great thanks, aaron and by ceiling tiles I mean something like this http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=186712-61-SC1135C&lpage=none
the ceiling tiles will be better for access but the drywall on rc will be better for sound isolation. maybe you can compromise and put panels in where you need access to values and junctions and leave the rest using drywall. by panels, i mean constructed to allow access but still sealed behind the things you need access to (to prevent sound from escaping) - not a perfect choice for access or isolation - but may be more isolation than simply using the ceiling tiles. in my case, i'm re-routing the plumbing and duct values over to the other side of the basement so i can seal the studio area. the rest of the basement will be acoustic tiles so i have access to the pipes, ducts, etc...
ok thanks
