Hello. I'm new on this site, and i'm quite a rookie in studio buisness so far. I'm a rapper and a beat maker, and i'm building a low budget studio in my room. But i don't have anough money for acoustic foam for my vocal both. I heard that egg cartons will work for breaking the echo. So I'm asking you for the most cheep solution for my vocal both, so i'm going to have normal sound when i'm going to record. P.S. im going to use Rode NT1000 microphone, and M Audio firewire 410 sound card. Thank you. (I'm from Slovenia, so i hope that my English is correct)
I'm sorry but egg cartons don't work. It's a myth :( Do you need isolation or you want the room to sound well when recording? Or both, it's not clear.
actually egg cartons could break up the high frequency reflections but they're a fire hazard and aren't necessarily going to affect the frequencies that make your vox booth sound better. if you can get your hands on some discarded lumber and insulation (maybe someone is renovating? an office tossing cubicle parts?) you could build your self from proper absorbers and perhaps even some slat resonators?
Just a Myth ha? Damn. One local producer in my town said that if you put egg cartons od the wall, and some foam under the cartons , so that cartons will be glued on the hard foam ( i dont know how ro say in english , we say "stiropor" it's bubles of some sort of foam glued together. :D ) will this help me even a little untill i get some pro "piramid" foam. btw. i'm talking about a vocal booth olny. And, yeah, it's very small too, about 1,5 x 1,5 meters, and ist made of wood. what if i put just a normal thick foam, it will kill some of the echo? cause my point is to isoate the booth from echo, so if you have any advices for that? thank's for previous answers.
Place a nice thick rug on one wall of the booth, Drill. See if that doesn't slow the echo down some. Add more rugs to other walls in booth until satisfied.
ok, thanks for help. I'm going to ask you guys about software for recording, mixing, mastering and all that. I'm in rap music, so I was using cool edit pro, but i realize that it's preety much a toy. So I was thinking about cubase... so if jou could named me some of good professional programs, for complete rap producing. thanks again.
To record, mix and master? Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Reaper... each one has its adventages. Try their demos and decide by yourself. Just, do not buy a Pro Tools if you are going to work with midi.
tnx... i think i will stick with cubase sx. I don't have pro tools hardware, so it's not a option. thanks guys for help. I get my gear next week, so expect more beginer questions. Have a nice day full of good music. :D
