I had some really difficult angles to work with for cutting drywall for the ceiling. I spent all this time making sure my measurements were exact only to find after cutting that I did it from the wrong perspective. This is the first layer of drywall (will be 2 when done). So when I went to hang it I discovered it has to be hung with the brown paper side down instead of the nicer side. So did I waste my Saturday? Or is it OK to have this? I feel like it's OK since this is the first layer, but I need to make sure with you guys!
Not a problem from any technical point of view. I think the paper might be marginally thicker on the "front" face but thats all.
Not a problem.
Sup? :) My day job is being a drywall finisher/contractor, and I'll tell ya, it makes absolutely no difference at all,,, it will all finish. the back side just gets a little more mud. The only thing that "is" different other than the paper, is the front side has 2 factory recesses that run the long way of the board that when hung together form a trough for the tape and mud to be applied to fill the trough in and make it level. these joints are called "flats". The 2 ends that are not beveled, are called "But Joints" and after they are taped and mudded they more likely than not have to be run on both sides , then lightly down the middle to make them appear flat and smooth,,this is called "Busting a But Joint". The back side has no recesses so everything is a But Joint. Dont sweat it bro, even all of our Pro  hangers boff one every now and again, or have a piece that needs hung and have a scrap piece that will work if it is cut from the back. If we have a board that is backward, we just white wash it with a thin coat of mud,,(wax on--wax off) so to speak and it will finish out just like the rest  So if your drywall man is leaving some but joints(or any joint for that matter ) crowned and you can see the hump,,just ask him to "bust them out a little further" Just a little tip from your friendly neighborhood Drywall Man  Actually I'm just killing time, drinking my coffee waiting on the wife to get ready to go out and eat breakfast. 8) MOSH ON DAVE
Great news!! thanks guys!
