My project:
Treating a rehearsal room/demo tracking room.
The room is app. 11' x 20' (see diagram).
Ceiling to floor is 9'.
Walls and ceiling are drywall, floor is reflective.
There is a 10'x10' thick rug on the floor at the drum end of the room.
Me:
Long time stalker on this forum, read a lot about acoustics, but this is my first chance to put it in practice. The music being played is rock.
What I've got:
12 panels of 2" Rockwool insulation (RT60).
26 1' x 1' Auralex Metro Foam wedges.
2 2' x 4' Auralex studio foam.
2 Auralex LENRD corner bass absorbers and 8 cheap Auralex knock-off corner bass absorbers that probably don't do much (inherited from a friend).
Budget:
Can I get away without buying anything else? Out of money for at least a month...
Question:
What's the best way to use what I've got?
I've attached a really ugly diagram of what I have in mind, wondering if there is a more efficient way to distribute the materials.
The plan right now is this:
- Wall A will have the 26 Auralex 1x1s glued to the wall, arranged so they're fairly spread out.
- Walls B and C will each have four 2x4 rockwool panels spaced 3" from the wall, and arranged so they're not opposite each other to prevent flutter echo. These will be mounted about 4' from the floor.
- Wall D will have the two 2x4 Auralex panels glued to the wall.
- The ceiling/wall corner at Wall A will have two 2x4 Rockwool panels moutned diagonally across it (next to each other, so a total of 8' feet of the corner is covered).
- Wall D will have the same.
- The foam bass absorbers, for what they're worth, will go in the corners at A/B and A/C.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciating, and let me know if I've omitted any vital info.
Thanks!
Basic room treatment, best use for the materials I have...

get some of the absorption across the corners of the room - bass buildup is strongest there, then stagger the treatments on opposite surfaces to create a diffusive space (ie don't make the treatment directly opposite each other but alternate them).
