My Project:
Treating a rehearsal/demo tracking room.
Room is approximately 11'x 2', with hard floors and drywall on ceiling and walls.
Me:
Long-time stalker on this forum, conducted a lot of research into studio building and treatment, but have no experience putting it into practice.
I have ordered 24"x48"x2" Roxul Rockboard to mount as absorption panels as part of my treatment of the room. I know mounting a few inches from the wall increases the range of frequencies absorbed, and I'm wondering: will curving the absorption panels away from the wall will aid diffusion in the room? It seems like it should, but I haven't seen anyone else mention it in my research.
I've included a (horrible-looking) diagram showing what I mean. Is this a good idea or am I on the wrong track?
Curved Absorption Panels for Diffusion

:D You must be one tiny guy!Room is approximately 11" x 2", with hard floors and drywall on ceiling and walls.
No it will only absorb sound. Glennwill curving the absorption panels away from the wall will aid diffusion in the room?
generally speaking, the panel needs some degree of hardness to effectively diffuse. it may be the rock panel has some reflectivity for high frequencies. if you have the room for curved panels, consider using 1/8 plywood with the rockwool backing it. consider perf-board poly's straddling the corners.
Thanks for your replies, glad I asked.
With regards to the 1/8 plywood with Rockwool backing: am I right in saying the plywood will reflect (and if curved, diffuse) higher frequencies, while the rockwool backing will continue to absorb the mids?
