ANY alternatives out there for cooler lighting? I have about 8 feet of track, and I have about 6 lights on it, all Line Level (not low voltage), I have plenty of light, but these things get HOT HOT HOT. Is there anyuthing I can use that would be cooler?? thanks gdizzlew p.s. So Cal
LED lights are the ticket...save energy and lots of money in the long run. You can also get dimmable LED's
This is a good idea. Never knew about LED for tracks. So I checked your site, $54 for a bulb? (Par 30), wow. The halogen I bought was $8.50, and I though that was expensive. So what I need to do, is get ahold of one of these LED lights to test it, then decide if its worth the extra $$. Though at this point I would do anything to get the heat from the lights to diminish. good idea. gd
Yeah, LED's are expensive. That's why I haven't bought mine yet. :) I keep hoping to find a less expensive source for them, but so far no luck. I'm thinking I'll just buy a couple at a time until I get them all replaced. Scott
Check out superbrightled.com I just ordered some Par20's and garden bulbs... I've been using LED's for all my lights now and my PGE bill has been cut down by %30. Definately the technology will be commonplace in 5 years replacing CFL's even...and prices will drop. Heck i think they're even working on LED headlights for cars now...
But tell me, my current Floodlight Halogen Par 30 says it does 900 Lumens. The comparable LED Par 30 says it does 50 Lumens? And it says it is comprable to a 20 watt incandescent bulb? Do these LED lights put any light out?? I mean for $40 a bulb, we gotta have some light, right??
I'm curious whether there'd be any interference with audio equipment. How about one of you dudes buy just one of those LEDs and let us know what you think of them? ;-) --Keith

Mine are 50w bulbs and are rated at 590 lumens and the CCrane bulbs are rated at 150 lumens. A little closer, but you're right, not a whole lot of light there. I'm hoping that the technology will get better, and that will not be a problem soon.

I'm curious about that myself. My gut tells me no, but I'll check it out before I invest much into them. I checked out superbrightled.com and I didn't see any "standard" based bulbs. Did I miss them? I'd love to have others chime in here. Scott
Something else to consider about these bulbs that I didnt see mentioned here yet,,,and that is,,,the life of the LED bulbs. Dont they usually last like a zillion hours?? That would be a consideration as to the replacement cost of regular bulbs. And then the low heat and low energy consumption....if they work without interfering with audio, then I think they would be the ticket! ;) Someone play around and let us know. I'd buy some to check out, but my new Studio isnt that far along,,,,yet. ;) AJ

LED do not disrupt electronic equipment as far as i know...mine do nothing to my audio racks. "Standard" base bulbs are called Edison base. THey are located here- http://www.superbrightleds.com/edison.html
