Hey guys and gals. I'm building a studio here in silvan south and need feedback on EVERYTHING!! The actual studio is 6 x 9 x 3.4 (see pic) with double brick walls. The design is pretty much there (Thanks to Mr. Sayers!) but I'm sure slight changes will happen. The place is set on 15 acres so there's no problem with disturbing neighbours, but maximum isolation between all the rooms is a must. This project is not only going to be a space for my band(s) to rehearse but also a business. We've got a budget of around $30,000 for the construction and plenty of help from all my carpenter/electrician mates! Now to the nitty gritty.. Floor - The floor is a 4 inch reinforced cement slab over a an additional 4 inch layer of crushed rock. Along with all the brick in the room the sound is already very bright and heavy in the high frequency range. I realy need to even it out. Should I install a floating floor? Is it worth it? What are the pros/cons? If not what would be the best way to go? Ceiling - As I mentioned, The ceiling is 3.4m. It's just plain old 16mm plasterboard. Above that, the structure of the actual roof (as you may have gussed) is a truss system. I have read a few posts on people who have floated a second ceiling below the existing one and caked the cavity in between with mineral/rock wool to increase isolation and absorbancy. Is this a good idea for someone in my situation, or should I put most of my insulation above the existing ceiling? Also, I should mention as you can see the bathroom already has a roof that extends over the bottom half of studio 2, all the way to the brick wall. (something I left out in the description for John.. Sorry John!) This roof is 2.75m high, leaving a gap of 650 mm to the "whole" room ceiling. In the case of putting up a floating ceilng, I was just going to extend out this roof over the whole studio. Is this a good idea? Will it compromise my sound? HELP ME!!!!!! Thats it for now dudes, but I'm sure I'll be back soon with more probing questions for all of you legends to answer! Untill then... Ta Ta.

What about this area here :

There is another connecting one at the entry sound lock area @ top-left of picture. Maybe an oversite by you...maybe just an unfilled in detail from the diagram. Seems important to me to address this IF it is to be built in this fashion. Brien
the soffit/traps would be backed w drywall to isoate. if isolation is needed, then another set of walls can be added... brs - i'd use the space over the bathroom to add trapping - put a cloth face to match the wall to ceiling and build in hangers or just stuff the front of the space with insulation. optionally add slats. i'd also remove the ceiling over the new enlarged room if possible.
