Hi Everyone, I am starting to plan the basement studio renovation. I'm in the very preliminary stages and would really just like some ideas in the best use of the space available. My goals would be to have a control room with a drum booth(studio A) and a grandpiano booth(Studio B) and a vocal booth/room. The first picture shows the basement as is. The second show what I want to do to get a little more room to work with. The ceiling height is about 3m. The ducting side is about 2.7m. Thanks a lot, Mani from South Korea.

Aloha and welcome to the forum! :D Congrats on your studio build! Any chance you could please:
Edit your profile to include your location. This is very important, because this is a worldwide resource, and as such, material costs and availability vary widely. For example, masonry is cheaper than gypsum in some parts of the globe, whereas it's the exact opposite in other regions.
This will really come in handy two or three posts down the road. It's also part of the forum guidelines. Thanks! For more info, check out both of these links - http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7572 http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 In Rod Gervais’ book “Build it Like the Pros,” http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5670 he points out both L.W.Sepmeyer’s & M.M. Louden’s formulas most widely used in professional studios worldwide. He also notes that the orders listed are (top to bottom) the first to third best ratios in both cases. 3 Meter(s) = 9.842519685 Feet L.W. Sepmeyer Height Width Length 1.00 1.14 1.39 9’8” x 11’ x 13’4” Perhaps you may want to consider switching the control room and vocal booth around so that you can have a line of vision into the vocal booth instead of behind you. Looking forward to your build! Aloha 8)

Aloha, You have a very nice space to work with, and a good basic layout. However, here are a few observations on the proposed control room/vocal booth layout: - room ratios less than ideal - resulting modal response questionable - absence of line of sight to the vocal booth - doorway in front left bass trap/soffit of control room - doorway in rear right bass trap of control room - piano booth may be a bit small for some types of recording genres Hope this helps, Aloha 8)
this idea might not be any better since the large spaces don't have a line of sight. that said you could add a small CR to the long space for additional work like post production etc...

Aloha, Now, that's nice! :D Aloha 8)
 incredible!!! Thx...... How about this????

seems like some wasted space in the hall plus still no vision between rooms...
I have a problem...  My sister also use grand piano room and vocal booth too. So, this two rooms must beside the lunge. I will set up cameras in each room. and set up lcd monitor in control room. And I'll perform with my band members(drum, guitar, bass)in Drum room. SOrry about my English..
Anyong, Mani! I really do like Glenn's design... it is a more "open" design. There is good line of sight to the other rooms, especially if you use large sliding doors. Many on this website have said they prefer to have real eye contact between the musicians/engineer, rather than using a camera. And hopefully the piano can be in a larger space. Many pro studios have a grand piano in the main live room, and maybe a smaller room just for drums [am I right, guys?] Perhaps you can arrange a studio timetable with your sister? Hmm that might be difficult, Maybe the top-left corner is a good place for a lounge, near the door, so less interruptions? Anyway, most important thing, take your time, especially with the design! And much more info means people here can help more, and we love pictures too! :) So, good luck with your design. I'm just a beginner here, but hope I helped a bit :) Geoff
   haha! anyong!! My band members want to play in same room. I have not enough money to buy sliding doors.   and actually I can't use the top left EXIT(because of building owner)
Aloha, Would it be possible to reposition the control room, lounge, vocal booth as follows? Aloha 8)

if you cannot use the top left door, then just flip the CR per Kendale's original suggestion and you're done... skip the sliders if they're out of budget.
   THx a lot , Guys.... :D I studied 'google sketchup... I can't use top left enterance...and more I want large entrane.(this is trick 8) ) Now, the seperation of the rooms finished. How can I attach big size(844kb) file??
quickest way to make the file smaller is to do Click Edit>Select All>make group then Copy, open a new blank sketch up and paste Just save the new sketch up and this should make the file small enough to post cheers lan
also in the menus "windows -> model info -> statistics -> purge unused" will clear items (objects, components, materials, etc) not in use. copying from one file to the other acheives the same effect... using as few materials and graphic objects as possible will help. also, after generating a graphic remove the non essential bits like drum kits, keyboards, mixers, etc. that have a high/complex poly count and purge the file. this way you eliminate things not needed in the sketchup file (for discussion purposes...)
Can U guys fix my file???? Guys..... I have no time for this construction.. Workers already seperate the rooms.... And.. now..room design....   I think most important place is the control room... Please fix my controlroom....   THX
