Hi Everyone,
I just bought a house in NJ and am starting to plan the basement studio renovation.
I'm in the very preliminary stages and would really just like some ideas in the best use of the space available.
My goals would be to have decent sized control room with a drum booth and a vocal/guitar booth/room.
I'm also used to outboard gear being to my right so I would probably have racks to the right of the mix position. I don't know if this matter but in most of the rooms I see on this site the racks are part of the mixer/control surface furniture.
My closest neighbor is probably about 100' away, so outside noise is probably not to much of an issue. However, I do want to try and get some sound proofing to the first floor if possible.
The first picture shows the basement as is. The second show what I want to do to get a little more room to work with. The third show some of the ducting.
The two blobs next to the fireplace are support columns.
The ceiling height on the right hand side is 8' to the joist. The ducting side is about 7.5'.
The windows are full size, meaning double hung.
I haven't decided on a budget but I keep thinking that 20K is about what i need to spend....call me delusional!
Thanks a lot,
Ernie

Aloha,
Perhaps something like this?

Thanks kendale,
I hadn't thought about the control room facing that way.
I guess I imagined walking down the stairs and into the control room.
Your layout might be cooloer because i could then get line of site to the booth.
One thing that I should have mentioned (it's hard to think of everything!)
is that I was hoping to include the fireplace in one of the rooms for vibe......
I was thinking the control room

Aloha,
Mmm, nice vibe. However, depending on your isolation requirements, you may find a lot of sound/noise coming in and going out of the fireplace if its located in your control room (or live room).   Perhaps a well designed colored lighting system on buzz-free dimmers and a few lava lamps instead?
