Hi guys,
Me and my partner are redoing a basement to shape it into what we hope is a wonderful recording studio. We need to soundproof the live room, and we were wondering what the best way to go would be on a budget. The live room is 13' 4 5/8" x 14' 9". We are taking out the drywall that is already installed and we are wondering which would be the most cost efficient way of making the room as sound proof as possible without breaking the bank. Would replacing the existing insulation with soundproof insulation followed by two layers of drywall with Green Glue in between them work well? Would we still get quality results by staying with regular insulation and doing two sheets of drywall with the green glue in between. Or I here that Quiet solutions has the 510 drywall 1/2" for about $40 a sheet. Would this suffice for doing a fairly decent job at sound proofing?
Thanks in advance and we appreciate your input. If you have any other questions or suggestions please let me know

Welcome to the forum.
First of all, there's no such thing as "soundproof insulation." Yes, there are insulation products that are marketed for their ability to reduce sound transmission a little, but that's mostly in the speech range, not the pesky low end that plagues studios. I like Thermafiber SAFB and Roxul AFB, which are in this category, but I'm more impressed with their fire resistance as mineral wool than their "soundproofing" abilities.
Next, search on the forum for "quietrock" (one word) to see how well (or - hint, hint - not) it is received here.
Green Glue is very good but not cheap. You may be better off spending your money more carefully, since you indicate you are on a budget.
Which leads me to this: what kind of budget? This is one of a dozen or so questions to which answers have not been yet provided. Please (re)read the "before you post" announcement thread ane follow all of the guidelines in it.
I also recommend that you buy Rod's book (see the sticky thread) as it will give you a tremendous advantage as you open your head and spend some more time reviewing the many worthy threads here. There's a ton to learn. :-)

Thanks Keith for catching me before I waisted money. :D The budget is pretty much whatever we need to do a fairly decent job. I do not have specifics. This is being taken care of by the family member who's home we are actually doing the construction in. He wanted me to find the most cost effective solution that does a good job of keeping the live room from making too much racket. Your comment on the insulation helps a lot. I figured that the insulation wouldn't do much for the low end stuff. I am working with a company that makes acoustic absorbers, diffusers, etc.
So I will keep searching away trying to find the best solution for us. If you have any ideas however feel free to throw them out there.
If I come up with anything else I will post it here to see what you guys think.
