use of plywood

Hi all, this is my first post. Great site you've all got here. I am building a new studio in Brooklyn, NY in an old creamery and I've been to this site a lot and have gotten great info. Now a question: Does it make sense to put a layer of plywood (extra stuff we have laying around in great quality) on the walls and then mount my drywall onto that? Thanks!
Welcome to the forum, hildy. In general, drywall is cheaper and denser (and therefore better for isolation) than plywood. If you have lots of it on site, which is of no use to you otherwise, then yes, you can "dispose of it" in your build, as long as you are aware of its limitations and keep your expectations in check. Also, generally, one would not mount drywall plywood - the screws need to penetrate studs. You'd need to use longer screws so that they penetrate the studs at least 5/8". --Keith
